Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a legal consultant. This unpaid volunteer opportunity is ideal for someone eager to gain hands-on experience in NPO-related legal work while contributing to our mission of supporting autism education and community initiatives.

Responsibilities:
Conduct legal research on topics relevant to non-profit operations, employment law, intellectual property, contracts, and regulatory compliance.
Assist in drafting and reviewing legal documents, including contracts, agreements, policies, and procedures.
Provide support to the executive team and board of directors on legal matters and compliance issues.
Assist in reviewing and updating organizational policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Collaborate with external legal counsel and advisors as needed to address complex legal issues and concerns.
Stay up-to-date with changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards affecting non-profit organizations and social services.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or recent graduate from a law school program program with knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations pertaining non-profit organization.

  • Interested in social justice, and making a positive impact in the community.

  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret and apply legal principles to real-world situations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts effectively.

  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Fluency in Chinese is a plus, but not required.

The Chinese Autism Resources and Empowerment Service (CARES) is a 501(C)3 nonprofit organization based in Seattle, WA.
